Inspired by the German poem by Schiller (1796), this tapestry was designed by Marianne Stokes of Morris & Co, and Woven by John Martin and Gorden Berry in 1912.
A quotation from the poem appears at the top and translates to "Honour the women, they broid and weave heavenly roses into earthly life." Labels are above or below each figure, reading "Courage", "Caring", "Love" ,"Wisdom" and "Fidelity".
The original is in the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
