The left side of this magnificant Holy Grail tapestry, woven by William Morris and his Company Morris & Co. around 1895. The full tapestry depicts the knights of the Round Table preparing to embark of their quest for the Holy Grail. This section specifically depicts Lady Guinevere handing Sir Lancelot his shield; a symbolic representation of their affair.
Edward Burne-Jones (a founding partner of Morris & Co.) designed the figures in the tapestry, with Morris himself taking care of the heraldry. The piece was part of series of 6 panels commissioned by Stanmore Hall based around the story of the Holy Grail.
The original is proudly displayed in the Birmingham museum, and this is a truly stunning replica of the piece, woven on Jacquard looms in Flanders.
All our tapestries are woven in Flanders, on Jacquard Looms using high quality materials, and are lined with cotton on the back, with a tunnel for easy hanging (see our Hanging Rods section). Click here for more information about the tapestries.
